The ki system allows players to exceed this limitation with execution mastery. They restrict players to a certain number of actions before risking severe disadvantage. The crux of this fighting engine is the ki system. It uses combat as a chance for players to show off, express themselves, and experiment. Nioh, on the other hand, carries the genes of its developer’s character action ancestors. In trying to reinterpret the formula established by From Software’s Dark Souls and Bloodborne games, Team Ninja has seemingly stumbled into creating one of the most satisfying action games of this generation with Nioh.
